About the President

Since 2001, Fred Jencks is the owner and President of UF Ammonia Services, Inc. He is responsible for design, scheduling, and implementation of compliance programs and supporting services. UF Ammonia Services is an ammonia-safety consulting company providing Process Safety Management, Risk Management, and General Duty Clause Programs and services to construction companies, refrigeration contractors, and system owners of cold storage and frozen food facilities.

Fred's background is in design and operations of ammonia refrigeration systems and refrigerated construction management. For thirteen years his corporate engineering experience of supervising ammonia system operators and maintenance staff at Americold, provided an insight into accomplishing tasks and goals through cooperation with ammonia system operators. User Friendliness (UF) for refrigeration personnel is the basis around which these programs were written. These are concise ammonia safety programs, logical and effectively documented, simplified for safety, cost effectiveness, and easy to implement immediately.

These regulatory compliance programs meet the requirements of OSHA’s Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119 and related sections), the EPA’s Risk Management Program (40 CFR Part 68), and the General Duty Clause (CAA Section 112(r). In addition to providing these compliance programs, he develops SOPs for equipment and process area operations, generates P&ID’s, leads PHA teams, teaches basic refrigeration classes, performs compliance audits, and coordinates ammonia documentation.
              
Fred has over 38 years of experience in the refrigeration industry. For two years before starting UF Ammonia Services in 2001, Fred was a Senior Refrigeration Engineer and PSM Manager for The Facility Group. For the prior twenty-six years, he concentrated on industrial ammonia refrigeration in the cold storage and food processing industries including 13 years at Americold Logistics. He has gained a wide range of experience in systems design and operation, as well as project management and safety. His design experience centers on ammonia refrigeration systems. Fred has designed systems for application in freezing meat, fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables as well as frozen food distribution centers, public refrigerated warehouses, subterranean frozen food warehouses, and low temperature freeze tunnels. He is experienced in regulatory compliance programs, and OSHA/EPA citation mitigation, not only for ammonia but also for hazardous waste, fire prevention, emergency evacuation, and underground storage tanks.
